Four
Indonesian air carriers to follow rigorous IATA
safety audit program. Following the July 6, 2007
blacklisting of Indonesian aviation by the European
Union (EU), which declared Indonesian-registered
aircraft as unsafe to fly into EU airspace, a
number of Indonesian airlines are opting into
the exacting aviation safety audit program run
by the International Air Transport Association
(IATA).
Quoted
in the Jakarta Post, Indonesian Transportation
Minister Jusman Syafii Djamal said, "We want
to collaborate with IATA, especially through its
IOSA program, or IATA Operational Safety Audit,
to show that we are committed to safety."
The
IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) program provides
a single, internationally accepted standard of
safety auditing that is internationally recognized
as a "gold standard" for the management
of safety in aviation.
According
to press reports, Garuda Indonesia, Adam Air,
Lion Air and Mandala Airlines have all declared
their readiness to join the IATA safety audit
program.
